EN : The subject of the study is manifestations of discrimination in the television
news stories of Zaporizhzhia TV channels.
The goal of our thesis is to find manifestations of discrimination on television
in Zaporszhzhsa. And also to reveal the gender imbalance in the news.
Theoretical and methodological principles: the basis of the study was the
preliminary research of domestic scientists about gender discrimination in Ukraine.
The scientific works of M. Vorona, S. Kovbasyuk and O. Kis regarding gender
stereotypes in advertising were used. In our research, we also relied on the works of
O. Melnikova and Yu. Maslova, in particular when considering the features of gender
coverage in the media. When describing discriminatory practices, we turned to the
scientific researches of O. Pozharova, I. Zhigalkin, and S. Pogrebnyak.
Obtained results: with the help of the monitoring method, it was found that the
number of male experts significantly exceeds the number of women in television
stories on Zaporizhzhia television. The topics in which men are most often experts
are related to war, politics, sports, volunteering, education, ecology. Topics in which
women express expert opinions are medicine, volunteering, social protection, and
culture. At the same time, it was found that there were more positive stories about the
professional success of women in various fields. For example, women on regional
television comment on the development of sports and business in the Zaporozhye
region.
