H. verbana.

The aim of the work was to determine the main leukocyte indices when
using Hirudo verbana as a non-invasive tool for blood sampling of mammals. The
study was conducted on the basis of the educational-scientific-research laboratory
of cellular and organismal biotechnology of the Zaporizhia National University.
The research material was the blood of 12 conditionally healthy donors, obtained
by the usual method and using H. verbana.
Research methods: immunological (determination of the total number of
leukocytes, leukocyte blood formula, leukocyte indices) and statistical.
It was found that in the blood of donors obtained with the use of H. verbana,
the number of leukocytes increased, and changes in the leukocyte formula of the
blood were detected (the relative content of lymphocytes increased and segmented
neutrophils decreased), compared to capillary blood. Leukocyte indices such as
ratio index of eosinophils to lymphocytes, ratio index of lymphocytes to
eosinophils, ratio index of lymphocytes to monocytes and ratio index of
neutrophils to lymphocytes change statistically significantly.
The novelty of the work consists in determining the leukocyte indices of the
blood of humans when using H. verbana as a tool for blood sampling.
Theoretical significance: H. verbana changes the leukocytic composition of
the blood, in connection with which leukocyte indices also change.
