The list of references includes 41 sources, 1 of them in foreign language.The method of casting steel at OJSC MK Azovstal and the costs and losses of fireclay brick production for caster №5 were described. The energy balance of fireclay production was calculated. for drying, calcination, cooling of the material, heat removed by gases, losses to the environment. Laboratory researches of thermophysical characteristics of refractories, in a reinforcing layer lining of a steel ladle for casters are carried out and results of empirical researches by the modern software environment are analyzed. Labor protection measures are considered.
