| uk |
| dc.description.abstract | EN : In our modern world, which is in the so-called information explosion, each of us is daily confronted with an endless stream of news, social media, advertising and various political messages. All this information that a person receives not only shapes our daily decisions, but also affects how we perceive government, election campaigns and even national identity. In this context, media literacy – the ability to analyze, evaluate and critically interpret information – turns into a vital skill. It becomes the very filter that helps to distinguish truth from manipulation, fact from propaganda, and objective analytics from emotional trolling. This work explores how media literacy affects the political culture of society, becoming the basis for conscious civic participation and the stability of democratic institutions. Absolutely all information technologies have radically changed the rules of the game in recent decades: social networks, bots, recommendation algorithms and fakes have turned the media space into an arena of constant struggle for users' attention. In Ukraine, where information wars have become part of hybrid aggression, media literacy is becoming a matter of national security. When thousands of fake news stories about the war in Donbas or the COVID-19 pandemic fill the Internet, citizens' ability to independently analyze can become a shield for public consciousness. In a modern information society, where the flow of news, social media, advertising and political messages is growing daily, media literacy is becoming a key tool not only for protection against disinformation, but also for activating political participation. People who are able to critically analyze information are more likely to participate in elections, participate in the discussion of draft laws and support public initiatives. For example, in countries with developed media education, such as Finland and Sweden, where media literacy is part of school curricula, there is a high level of trust in the media and political activity of young people. At the same time, in Ukraine, according to the Institute of Mass Information (2022), only 35% of the population regularly checks news sources, which limits the effectiveness of civil control over government and reduces political involvement. Therefore, the problematic situation is to study the relationship between the level of media literacy and the degree of individual participation in the political process. | uk |
