Роман “A Tale of Two Cities” Ч. Діккенса у кінематографічній інтерпретації Джека Конвея

Abstract

UA : Дипломна робота – 54 стор., 50 джерел, 9 додатків Об’єкт дослідження: інтермедіальний діалог між художньою літературою та кіномистецтвом. Мета роботи: у ході інтермедіального аналізу з’ясувати особливості переосмислення художнього тексту Ч. Діккенса “A Tale of Two Cities” у кінострічці Джека Конуея. Матеріалом дослідження став роман Ч. Діккенса “A Tale of Two Cities” (1859 р.) та фільм Джека Конуея “A Tale of Two Cities” (1935 р.). Отримані результати: екранізація – це складний і цікавий процес, що потребує таланту та креативності з боку створювачів кіно. Звернення до кінорепрезентації завжди виступає потужним фактором до впливу не тільки на свідомість, але й на підсвідомість глядача. У порівнянні екранізації з першоджерелом існують різні важливі критерії, включаючи відповідність сюжету та персонажам, якість акторської роботи, відповідність музичного та звукового супроводу, а також дотримання стилістики та атмосфери оригінального твору. Історія адаптацій Чарльза Діккенса включає у себе різні жанри, що відображає глибокий інтерес публіки до його творів. Екранізація роману “A Tale of Two Cities” Чарльза Діккенса 1935 року вдало передала ключові моменти сюжету та основні теми твору, але внесла певні трансформації. Основні персонажі були впізнаваними та складали основу сюжету, проте їх внутрішні монологи були обмежені, а діалоги скорочені. Кінематографісти вдало передали масштабність революційних подій та реалістичний настрій того періоду. Водночас, кіноадаптація змінила фінал, додавши драматизму та кохання. Кінострічка досконало передає атмосферний контекст історичних подій XVIII століття за допомогою ритуальних жестів та костюмів.

EN : The present paper is dedicated to the consideration of the novel “A Tale of Two Cities” by C. Dickens in Cinematographic Interpretation by Jack Conway. The object of the work can be defined as the analysis of the intermedial dialogue between fiction and cinema on the example of Charles Dickens's novel “A Tale of Two Cities”. The main aim of the paper is to analyze and interpret the perception of the novel "The Tale of Two Cities" in the film industry, study the ways of its adaptation on the screen. The results obtained: the film adaptation is a complex and interesting process that requires talent and creativity from the filmmakers. Appeal to the film presentation is always a powerful factor to influence not only the consciousness, but also the subconscious of the viewer. In comparison with the original film adaptation, there are various important criteria, including the correspondence of the plot and characters, the quality of the acting, the correspondence of the musical and sound accompaniment, as well as compliance with the style and atmosphere of the original work. The history of adaptations of Charles Dickens includes various genres, which reflects the deep interest of the public in his works. Charles Dickens' 1935 adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities successfully conveyed the key points of the plot and the main themes of the work, but introduced certain transformations. The main characters were recognizable and formed the basis of the plot, but their internal monologues were limited, and the dialogues were reduced. Filmmakers successfully conveyed the scale of revolutionary events and the realistic mood of that period. At the same time, the film adaptation changed the ending, adding drama and love. The film perfectly conveys the atmospheric context of historical events of the 18th century through ritual gestures and costumes.
