Поема про Беовульфа у художньому перепрочитанні Дж. Гарднера (на матеріалі роману “Grendel”)

Abstract

UA : Дипломна робота – 57 стор., 65 джерел Об’єкт дослідження: теорія традиційних сюжетів та образів. Мета роботи: з’ясувати прийоми та способи трансформації традиційного сюжетно-образного матеріалу поеми про Беовульфа у романі Джона Гарднера “Grendel”. Теоретико-методологічні засади: концепції відомих літературознавців, які вивчали теорію традиційних сюжетів і образів в контексті трансформації традиційного сюжетно-образного матеріалу (А. Р. Волков, А. Є. Нямцу, О. В. Червінська, Ю. І. Шевельов, Ю. М. Лотман, Р. Барт, М. Фуко, Ж. Дерріда ін.). Отримані результати: аналіз традиційних сюжетів та образів і специфіки їхньої трансформації дозволив з’ясувати специфіку переосмислення архаїчної поеми про Беовульфа у романі “Grendel” постмодерністського автора Джона Гарднера. Трансформація традиційного сюжетно-образного матеріалу набула форм психологізації, деталізації, переакцентування та зміни наративного фокусу, що призвело до нового перепрочитання відомої легенди. Ґрендель, який у поемі виступає як антагоніст, стає в цьому романі центральним персонажем. Автор зосереджується на внутрішньому світі монстра, розкриваючи його почуття, думки та переживання. Внаслідок цього “Grendel” стає не простою історією про боротьбу героя із чудовиськом, але й роздумами навколо сутності зла, самотності та людського призначення.

EN : The presented paper is dedicated to the research of such a topical problem as the artistic rereading of classical works, on the basis of comparative analysis of the poem “Beowulf” and J. Gardner’s novel “Grendel”. The research focuses on the specifics of re-reading (reinterpretation) and adapting classical works in literature. The main aim of the paper is to analyze the artistic reinterpretation of the poem about Beowulf in J. Gardner’s novel “Grendel”, revealing the author’s unique approach to classical epic material and identifying new interpretations and developments of themes and symbols in literary works. Concepts by renowned literary scholars used in the comparative study of traditional plots and images in literary criticism are presented in the paper (A. R. Volkov, A. Ye. Nyamtsu, O. V. Chervinska, Yu. I. Shevelov, Yu. M. Lotman, R. Bart, M. Foucault, J. Derrida, etc.). The analysis of traditional plots and images and the specifics of their transformation made it possible to find out the specifics of rethinking the archaic poem about Beowulf in the novel “Grendel” by the postmodern author John Gardner. The transformation of the traditional plot and figurative material took the form of psychologization, detailing, re-emphasis, and a change in narrative focus, which led to a new rereading of the famous legend. Grendel, who acts as an antagonist in the poem, becomes a central character in this novel. The author focuses on the monster’s inner world, revealing his feelings, thoughts, and experiences. As a result, Grendel becomes not just a story about the hero’s struggle against the monster, but also a reflection on the essence of evil, loneliness, and purpose.
