Емоційний інтелект виступає важливою когнітивною складовою структури комунікативних здібностей особистості. Він допомагає прогнозувати розвиток міжособистісних стосунків, «загострює» інтуїцію, передбачливість, забезпечує психологічну витривалість; дає змогу долати раптові кризи, стреси та ситуації, які загрожують самоповазі. Підлітковий вік характеризується тим, що провідною діяльністю виступають міжособистісні стосунками з друзями. В формальних групах підлітків зустрічаються випадки, коли деякі її члени отримують такі соціометричні статуси, як відторгнуті та ізольовані, а це може свідчити про низький емоційний інтелект. Тобто, підвищивши рівень емоційного інтелекту підвищиться і соціометричний статус в групі. Наукова новизна роботи полягає в тому, що набуло подальшого розвитку психологічне уявлення про взаємозв’язок між емоційним інтелектом та соціометричним статусом підлітків в групі.
