Abstract

EN : The work is presented on 57 pages of printed text. The list of references includes 66 sources. The presented paper is dedicated to the analysis of such a topical problem as the usage of emotives in the works of Somerset Maugham. The object of the work can be defined as an emotives in the author's speech and the speech of the characters in the works of Somerset Maugham. The main aim of the paper is to reflect the typological and functional characteristics of linguistic emotives in Somerset Maugham's novels “Theater”, “The Moon and Sixpence”, “The Painted Veil”. It determined the accomplishment of such objectives as:  to study the theoretical and methodological principles of the linguistics of emotions;  to outline the linguistic means of expression of emotions;  to characterize the stylistic functions of emotives in these works. The question of clearly defining such terms as emotionality and emotivity remains relevant. Analysis of empirical material showed that in the works of S. Maugham there are 4 groups of emotives: joy, sorrow, anger and contempt. Often in the speech of the characters emotives are expressed by lexical means, among which affectives predominate. Among the syntactic means of expressing emotions, exclamatory constructions predominate. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the fact that it made a comprehensive study of emotives in the work of Somerset Maugham.

Теоретико-методологічні засади: формулювання основних положень лінгвістики емоцій та опис стилістичних функцій емотивів у творах Сомерсета Моема. Отримані результати: на даному етапі розвитку лінгвістики емоцій спостережується нерозробленість термінологічного апарату. Таким чином, залишається актуальним питання щодо чіткого визначення таких термінів як емоційність та емотивність. Аналіз емпіричного матеріалу показав, що у творах С. Моема наявні 4 групи емотивів: радості, горя, гніву та зневаги. Найбільш часто в мовленні персонажів емотиви виражені лексичними засобами, серед яких переважають афективи. Серед синтаксичних засобів вираження емоцій переважають окличні конструкції. Роль емотивів можуть виконувати повтори, парцеляція, градація та порівняння. Доведено, що емотиви в романах С. Моема сприяють створенню психологічного портрету персонажів та відображенню емоційного внутрішнього світу образу автора та героїв.
