Допомога іншому як феномен міжособистісних відносин відбиває, з одного боку, особливості суспільних відносин, з іншого боку - специфіку особистісної позиції індивіда. Тому дуже важливим є розуміння психології допомагаючої дії, допомагаючої поведінки, допомагаючих відносин, якими охоплюється значний потенціал особистісного розвитку людини. Допомога іншому як акт взаємодії передбачає певне співвіднесення психологічних просторів обох особистостей - суб'єктів інтеракції. Загальновизнаним є положення про те, що особистість формується у взаємодії людини з оточуючим світом, і в цьому процесі задіяні як зовнішні впливи, так і внутрішні умови. У індивідуальній історії розвитку людини складаються індивідуальні особливості особистості. Допомога іншому здійснюється в єдності внутрішніх умов (наприклад, бажання допомогти) та зовнішніх впливів, що й призводить до розвитку особистості. Наукова новизна дослідження полягає у поглибленні змісту поняття «допомоги іншому», яке розглядається як дія та як тип міжперсональних відносин; у з'ясуванні особистісних корелятів схильності допомагати іншому; у виявленні специфіки репрезентації концепту «допомоги іншому» в свідомості людей; у розкритті зв'язку допомоги іншому з самоактуалізацією особистості та особистісним розвитком. Запропонована орієнтовна класифікація рівнів допомоги іншому, розроблена система діагностичних засобів для розвитку схильності особистості допомагати іншим.

Helping others as a phenomenon of interpersonal relations reflects, on the one hand, the peculiarities of social relations, on the other hand - the specifics of the personal position of the individual. Therefore, it is very important to understand the psychology of helping action, helping behavior, helping relationships, which covers the significant potential of personal development. Helping others as an act of interaction involves a certain correlation of the psychological spaces of both individuals - the subjects of interaction. It is generally accepted that the personality is formed in the interaction of man with the outside world, and in this process involved both external influences and internal conditions. In the individual history of human development are individual characteristics of the individual. Help to others is carried out in the unity of internal conditions (for example, the desire to help) and external influences, which leads to the development of personality. The scientific novelty of the study is to deepen the meaning of the concept of "helping others", which is seen as an action and as a type of interpersonal relationships; in elucidating personal correlates of the tendency to help others; in identifying the specifics of the representation of the concept of "helping others" in the minds of people; in revealing the connection of helping others with self-actualization of personality and personal development. An approximate classification of levels of assistance to others is proposed, a system of diagnostic tools for the development of a person's tendency to help others is developed.
