Abstract

EN : The work is presented on 67 pages of printed text. The list of references includes 86 sources. The Master’s paper is dedicated to the analysis of such a topical problem as the creativity of memes in the English language mass media. The object of the work is the memes in English-language social media discourse. The subject of the research is the meme creating and the linguistic situation formed by them in the English-language media texts. The main aim of the paper consists in revealing the peculiarities of the formation of memes as communication units in the English language media discourse. It determined the accomplishment of such objectives as: – defining the term “meme” and specifying the theoretical and methodological principles of its functioning; – analyzing structural and communication characteristics of memes; – establishing thematic groups of memes in the English-language media texts. The linguistic and stylistic tools for creating comic effect are investigatedin the paper as well as their functions in media discourse. First, the research highlights the perspectives of studying linguistic memes for teenagers, methods of teaching that involve usіng memes. Second, using memes as a communicative technology for creating media reality, in particular, COVID-19 memes and anti discrimination memes. Third, the application of memes suggestive manipulative techniques for creating negative associations: rhetoric questions for imposing certain answers and highly emotional words-labels. The scientific novelty of the presented research lies in the investigation of the manifestations, mechanisms and types of the memes functioning in the English language mass media discourse.

Предметом дослідження є процеси мемотворчості та сформована ними лінгвістична ситуація у англомовних медіатекстах. Метою дослідження є розкриття особливостей формування мемів як комунікаційних одиниць у медійному дискурсі сучасної англійської мови. Теоретико-методологічні засади: ключові положення вивчення феномену «мему», розроблені в лінгвістиці (С.Блекмор, Р.Брауді, Ю.Данилов, Р.Докінз, О.Дубінська, С.Канашина, С.Катаєва, А.Квят, К.Пивоваровська, Г.Семенюк, К.Соколова, А.Столетов, Е.Циховська)та в міждисциплінарних працях (Л.Бьорзі, Д.Джао, О.Імонема, М. Йохан і Д.Булов, С.Канізаро, Д.Корі, М.Глентца, Д.Новака, Р.Мілнера, П.Михайлідіса А.Нісенбаума, Е.Росса, Х.Хайтінгтон, Л.Шифмана, С.Чжан, Л.Шифар та ін.). Отримані результати: досліджено прояви мемотворчості як форми медіатворчості молоді в контексті медіакомунікації на прикладі соціальних медіа Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, сайті Memes against racism та ін. Встановити структурні й комунікаційні характеристики мемів. Схарактеризовано мемотворчість покоління Z, зокрема таких образів-мемів: думер, зумер, блумер та ін. Подано інтерпретацію конструювання мемів як креативної діяльності та комунікаційної адаптації в освітніх проєктах, зокрема функціонування лінгвістичних мемів. Виявлено тематичні групи мемів у англомовних медійних текстах, схарактеризовано такі тематичні групи як пандемія, антидискримінаційні практики.
