The presented paper is dedicated to the analysis of such a topical problem of
linguistics as the lexical-semantic field of the concept of weather.
The object of the work can be defined as the the lexical-semantic field
"weather" in British dialects of the English language.
The main aim of the paper consists in analyzing the concept, structure and
ways of modelling a lexical-semantic field, specifically, concept of "weather" in
British dialects. It determined the accomplishment of such objectives as:
- clarification of the difference between "structure" and "system" in
linguistics;
- profound research of the theoretical principles of the theory of lexical semantic field;
- identification of the dialectal units that embody the concept of "weather";
- modelling of the lexical-semantic field "weather".
The study of the vocabulary of dialects on the basis of the lexical-semantic
field demonstrates its relevance and significance for a detailed analysis and
description of the language picture of the world of people of a certain territory. The
concept of lexical-semantic field is characterised by its territorial limitation in
comparison with the established variant of the English language that is widespread.
A dialect is distinguished as one of the types of mother-tongue that represents the
national identity of the locals who use this dialect.

Об’єкт дослідження: лексико-семантичне поле «погода» у
британських діалектах англійської мови.
Мета дослідження – побудова лексико-семантичного поля «погода» та
порівняння особливостей вербалізації погодних явищ та умов у різних
діалектах британського варіанту англійської мови.
Теоретико-методологічні засади: ключові положення діалектології
(М. М. Маковський, В. М. Жирмунський, Б. О. Серебреніков, Г. Ортон,
Дж. Райт, П. Традгіл) та теорія системної організації лексико-семантичного
поля (Й. Трір, Л. Вайсбергер, А. В. Бондарко, З. Д. Попова, І. А. Стернін).
Отримані результати: діалектна лексика органічно вписується в
традиційну модель лексико-семантичного поля, яка притаманна літературній
мові, але відрізняється від неї фрагментарністю. Останнє є слідством
репрезентативного матеріалу, який включається до діалектних словників. В
результаті, лексико-семантичне поле діалектів не відображає весь мовний
репертуар діалектоносіїв. В той же час ті елементи які вербалізовані та
представлені у словниках несуть вагому лінгвокультурологічну значущість.
Лексико-семантичне поле діалектів відзначається своєю обмеженістю у
порівнянні з полями літературної мови. Діалект є різновидом національної
мови, що вербалізує ідентичність та світобачення діалектоносіїв, розкриває
національну або локальну своєрідність.
