Abstract
EN : The presented paper is dadicated to the study of the peculiarities of neo-mythologism in postmodernist literature. The object of the research is the novel “Feet of Clay” by the British writer Terry Pratchett, in which the author employs myth to address the pressing issues of the global world. The main objectives of the study include a detailed examination of the theoretical framework related to the topic (N. Frye, M. Eliade, L. Kozubenko, I. Frys, and others); the identification of characteristic features of the incorporation of images from “lower”, Scandinavian, and Jewish mythology in the novel “Feet of Clay” and their synthesis; and, notably, the analysis of mythologemes transformed by Pratchett. The findings demonstrate that traditional mythological images in Pratchett's novel are presented in a deconstructed form. They appear in an unconventional classical mythological space, namely, a multicultural city, where humans coexist with creatures from various mythologies (“lower”, Scandinavian, and Jewish), which underscores the eclecticism of their incorporation into the narrative. In “Feet of Clay” the creatures are portrayed with deep irony and serve as a representative model of the contemporary world, reflecting social dynamics and societal attitudes toward marginalized groups. The allegorical nature of these representations facilitates multiple interpretations of the text. The mythologemes in the novel undergo significant transformation: they deviate from canonical views and become a medium for reinterpretation within the framework of the real world.
