Abstract
EN : The qualification work consists of 90 pages. Keywords: Holodomor 1932–1933, Zaporizhzhia region, genocide, totalitarian regime, grain procurements, “blackboards”, collectivization. The object of the study is the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in the territory of the modern Zaporizhzhia region as a socio-political phenomenon. The subject of the study is the socio-economic and political mechanisms and forms of implementing repressive policies, as well as the demographic consequences of this phenomenon for the population of the Zaporizhzhia region. The aim of the thesis is to examine the specifics of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in the Zaporizhzhia region by identifying the socio-economic and political factors that caused the mass starvation of the population, as well as to contribute to the preservation of the memory of the victims of this tragedy. Scientific novelty lies in a comprehensive regional study of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in the Zaporizhzhia region, which: 1. Specifies the mechanisms of implementing the policy of genocide (in particular, the “blackboards” system) at the local level. 2. Introduces archival documents of local authorities, party structures, collective farm protocols, and district newspapers into scientific circulation. 3. Involves oral testimonies of witnesses regarding demographic losses and behavioral strategies of the population. 4. Compares manifestations of the Holodomor in the Zaporizhzhia region with other regions of Ukraine, highlighting both common and distinct features. Main results of the study: 1. The state of historiography and source base of the topic has been determined. It was established that the regional specifics of the Holodomor in the Zaporizhzhia region are still insufficiently studied. Sources for this study are diverse and allow the investigation of both state policy and survival strategies of the population. 2. Methodological approaches to studying the regional features of the Holodomor have been substantiated. Principles of historicism, objectivity, systematicity, and interdisciplinarity were applied. Methods of historical-typological, comparative-historical, biographical, and statistical analysis were used to reconstruct the regional specifics of the course and consequences of the 1932–1933 tragedy. 3. The scale and specific manifestations of the Holodomor have been determined. The Zaporizhzhia region turned out to be one of the most affected areas of Ukraine, with tens of thousands of confirmed victims in specific settlements. The tragedy also manifested in the decline of farms, depopulation of villages, significant losses among the older generation, and deep moral-psychological trauma of the population. 4. Statistics on the losses of the Holodomor in the Zaporizhzhia region are fragmentary and based on demographic reconstructions, archival documents, and the National Book of Memory of the Holodomor Victims, and require further research. 5. The social consequences of the tragedy have been identified. The population adapted to new forms of coercion (“serfdom of a new type”), the mentality changed, traditional moral norms were destroyed, and society became post-genocidal. 6. The role of local authorities in implementing the Holodomor policy has been revealed. Local authorities ensured the execution of central policies, controlled the confiscation of grain and all food products, and applied repressions to meet unrealistic grain procurement plans, which significantly intensified the scale of starvation. 7. The mechanisms of implementing the policy of hunger, which led to the destruction of farms and changes in the socio-economic structure of the population, have been revealed and analyzed. 8. It has been proven that the Holodomor in the Zaporizhzhia region was artificial, with specific features and a large-scale destructive impact on the region.
