Abstract
EN : The master's thesis “Anthroponymic names in the Holy Scriptures in Ukrainian: traditions, translation, spelling, interpretation ” contains 99 pages. To complete the bachelor's thesis, about 500 textual precedents with anthroponyms were selected, and 52 scientific sources were processed. The subject of the research was anthroponymic names in Ukrainian translations of the Bible, in particular in the Gospel of John. The object of the study was the specifics of translation and spelling of biblical anthroponyms. The purpose of the study is to analyze the spelling and interpretation of biblical anthroponyms in Ukrainian translations of the Gospel of John by Ivan Ohienko, Ivan Khomenko, Valeriy Hromov, and Yuriy Popchenko. In the course of the study, the following tasks were accomplished : 1) to consider the range of controversial issues related to determining the status of spelling variants of anthroponyms in connection with the presence of several translation traditions of the Bible; 2) to determine the spelling traditions of rendering proper names in the Gospel of John in the translations of Ivan Ogienko, Ivan Khomenko, Valeriy Hromov, and Yuriy Popchenko; 3) to formulate the specifics of the Ukrainianness of the translation of biblical proper names as a linguistic phenomenon; 4) to develop uniform spelling norms for the transmission of anthroponyms in view of the current spelling; 5) to create linguistic and spelling recommendations. The study was conducted using descriptive and contextual methods, elements of component analysis, statistical and comparative methods. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that its results provide additional information about the peculiarities of the spelling norm and the variability of anthroponyms in Ukrainian white tests. Scope of application. The results of the study can be used in the further development and improvement of biblical translation studies, in the development of new dictionaries and in detailed studies of onomatopoeia by linguists.
