EN : The presented paper is devoted to the study of the process of teaching Shakespeare’s works in educational institutions with the use of film adaptations as a didactic tool, based on the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”. The object of the research is the process of studying Shakespeare’s creative heritage in educational settings through film adaptations as a means of teaching literature and language. The main aim of the paper is to theoretically substantiate and develop a model for the use of film adaptations of “Romeo and Juliet” in the teaching of world literature and the English language, which contributes to a deeper understanding of the literary text and promotes the development of media literacy and language competence among learners. The theoretical and methodological framework of the research is based on the integration of literary studies (in particular, Shakespearean studies), intermedial studies, and the methodology of teaching philological disciplines. The research employs such methods as descriptive analysis, analysis and synthesis, close reading, and the comparative method. The results show that young people today are less interested in reading, preferring screen-based forms such as film adaptations. The intermedial approach is effective, as it helps analyze how literary texts are represented in other media, especially cinema. Using film adaptations in teaching boosts reading motivation, develops critical thinking, and strengthens literary analysis skills. Film adaptations act not only as illustrations but as independent interpretations, helping students better understand classical works, especially Shakespeare, and increasing their interest in reading.
