Гендерна проблематика у сучасному англомовному соціокультурному просторі та особливості її висвітлення в україномовних перекладах: лексика, семантика та прагматика

Abstract

UA : Об’єкт дослідження: гендерна проблематика у сучасному англомовному соціокультурному просторі як комплекс мовних, культурних та ідеологічних явищ, що відображають суспільні уявлення про гендерні ролі, ідентичності та інклюзивність. Мета роботи:. визначити та проаналізувати закономірності передачі гендерної проблематики англомовних текстів в україномовних перекладах, окреслити труднощі й можливості лексико-семантичної та прагматичної адаптації, а також розробити рекомендації для забезпечення інклюзивності та культурної адекватності перекладу. Теоретико-методологічні засади: аналіз наукової літератури, синтез, узагальнення, описовий метод, порівняльно-зіставний, семантичний аналіз, прагматичний аналіз, дискурс-аналіз, елементи кількісного аналізу. Отримані результати: У результаті дослідження проаналізовано теоретичні засади та практичні аспекти гендерної проблематики в сучасному англомовному соціокультурному просторі.EN : The presented paper is dedicated to the linguistic study of gender as a multidimensional phenomenon that has evolved from a grammatical category into a complex interdisciplinary concept. Gender is viewed as a sociocultural construct shaped by historical and social factors, and modern linguistics examines how it influences communication, identity formation, and social roles. The object of the work can be defined as the system of gender-marked linguistic elements—grammatical forms, lexical units, phraseological expressions, and discourse patterns—that reflect cultural norms, stereotypes, and social inequalities. The study highlights how Ukrainian and English languages encode gender differently: Ukrainian relies heavily on grammatical gender, while English expresses it mainly through pronouns. The main aim of the paper consists in identifying how gender asymmetries manifest in language and how they can be addressed in translation. The research outlines typical forms of linguistic sexism, such as androcentrism, asymmetric naming, and invisibility of women, and reviews modern tendencies toward feminization and the use of gender-neutral vocabulary. Special attention is paid to translation strategies for gender-marked elements, including neutralization, descriptive rendering, adaptation, and compensation. Translation of English binary (he/she) and non-binary pronouns (they singular, ze/zir, xe/xem) poses particular challenges due to the grammatical constraints of Ukrainian. Translators must balance accuracy, inclusivity, and cultural norms while avoiding the reinforcement of stereotypes. The paper concludes that gender marking in language performs not only communicative but also cultural and ideological functions. Therefore, the translator acts as a cultural mediator who contributes to shaping inclusive linguistic practices and to the broader process of rethinking gender roles in contemporary society.
