EN : The presented document is dedicated to the study and analysis of American teenage slang and the semantic features of informal language use among contemporary adolescents. The object of this study is American teenage slang as a sociolinguistic phenomenon reflecting the linguistic characteristics of a specific age group. The research aims to identify the structural and semantic features of slang used by teenagers in contemporary communication. To achieve this, the following tasks will be completed: clarify the definition of "slang," examine approaches to its classification, determine its main functions, and distinguish between "teenagers" from a socio-psychological perspective and "teen slang" in the American context. Analyzing slang units from social media, and examining their sources, processes of semantic derivation, and usage, we conclude that contemporary American teenage slang can be categorized into eight semantic groups: general slang, emotions and states, trendy and unusual expressions, characteristics of personality types, evaluations of quality and style, expressions of admiration and praise, statements of agreement, and social behavior and attitudes. As a result of this practical work, abbreviations were analyzed and systematized, leading to the identification of eight semantic groups based on the specificity of slang usage: social interaction, emotional state, temporal markers, expressions of opinions, themes and content, context and clarification, gaming slang, and interaction with information. Four groups of informal abbreviations have been classified based on grammatical features: abbreviations with verbs and contracted forms (past and future), abbreviations with pronouns and auxiliary verbs, abbreviations with phrases and slang expressions, and abbreviations with modal and auxiliary verbs.
