Перекладацькі помилки при відтворенні оповідань О. Генрі українською мовою

Abstract

UA : Дипломна робота – 100 с., 80 джерел, 8 додатків Об’єкт дослідження: оцінювання якості перекладеного тексту. Мета роботи: аналіз типових перекладацьких помилок на матеріалі оповідань О. Генрі, відтворених українською мовою. Теоретико-методологічні засади: класичні та сучасні концепції перекладу (П. Ньюмарк, Ю. Найда та Ч. Табер, Дж. Кетфорд, К. Райс, В. Вілс); теорії еквівалентності (В. Коллер), помилкознавства. Отримані результати: аналіз восьми перекладів оповідань О. Генрі українською мовою дозволив визначити найпоширеніші види помилок: стилістичні (порушення норм та звичаїв літературного стилю, добір невдалих відповідників для відтворення особливостей ідіостилю автора), часові (немотивована зміна часу дієслів у перекладах), лексичні (добір невдалих лексичних та семантичних відповідників), прагматичні (порушення логіки подій, некоректне відтворення комунікативної ситуації), а також непотрібні опущення (втрата важливої для читача інформації). Значна частина цих помилок спричинена недостатнім розумінням перекладачами комунікативних ситуацій, невдалим добором лексичних відповідників, а також недостатнім розумінням біографії та особливостей ідіостилю О. Генрі. На основі виявлених порушень було запропоновано власні варіанти перекладу проблемних фрагментів.EN : The presented paper is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of typical translation difficulties and errors that arise in the process of translation of O. Henry’s literary works into Ukrainian. The insufficient coverage in translation studies of issues related to the classification and practical analysis of errors in translations of literary texts, as well as the need to systematize the causes and mechanisms of their occurrence, defines the relevance of the study. The aim of the work consists of identification, classification, and analysis of the translation errors in translations of O. Henry's short stories into Ukrainian, as well as exploration of the reasons for the occurrence of these translation errors. Within the scope of the stated goal, the following tasks have been formulated: • characterization of literary translation as a type of translation activity; • analysis of approaches to the concept of equivalence; • generalization of modern classifications of translation errors; • comparative analysis of source and target texts; • typologization of the identified errors and development of possible variants of translation. The theoretical basis of the work consists of the works of P. Newmark, E. Nida and C. Taber, J. Catford, K. Reiss, J. Munday, K. Nord, G. Hansen, and other scholars who studied the problems of equivalence, functional approaches to translation, and the classification of translation difficulties and errors. Particular attention is paid to W. Wills' model of translation quality analysis and G. Hansen's classification of errors in translation, which is used as the main methodological basis for the practical part of the study. In the process of analysis of the 8 source texts and 8 target texts, the most common types of errors were identified: stylistic (violation of the norms and conventions of literary style, selection of incorrect equivalents to reproduce the author's style), tense-related (unmotivated change of verb tenses in translations), lexical (selection of incorrect lexical and semantical equivalents), pragmatic (violation of the logic of events, incorrect reproduction of the communicative situation), as well as unnecessary omissions (loss of information important to the reader). A significant amount of these errors is caused by translators' insufficient understanding of communicative situations, unsuccessful selection of lexical equivalents, as well as insufficient understanding of O. Henry's biography and idiolect. Based on the identified violations, translation variants for problematic fragments were proposed. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the systematization of typical translation errors in translations of O. Henry's works into Ukrainian and in the application of G. Hansen's model to literary texts, which is rarely implemented in contemporary research. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using the results in courses on the theory and practice of translation, stylistics, text interpretation, and literary translation.
