Abstract

The object is meditation techniques and mindfulness for Ukrainian refugees experiencing stressful conditions as a result of military operations and displacement. The military conflict in Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 2014 and intensified in 2022, has become the main cause of large-scale migration of Ukrainians, among whom many people were forced to leave their homes, relatives and familiar environment. These events have led to significant psychological stress and stress, especially among those who have become refugees. The psychological state of these individuals is often marked by high levels of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and difficulties in adapting to new living conditions. Among the main stress factors are the loss of housing, work, cultural isolation, transition to a new social environment, as well as a constant threat to security. In such stressful situations, psychological assistance to refugees becomes an important component of their recovery and adaptation process. One of the most effective tools for reducing stress levels and maintaining mental health are meditation and mindfulness techniques. These methods, based on practices of conscious attention and concentration, have proven their effectiveness in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression in various social groups, including among people who have experienced traumatic experiences. Mindfulness, as a practice of attentive presence in the moment, has the ability to reduce psychological stress, improve emotional well-being, and strengthen a person’s ability to cope with difficulties. The MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) program has become one of the most researched and used methods in the world for combating stress and developing stress resistance. Despite the recognized effectiveness of mindfulness and meditation in reducing stress, research on the impact of these techniques on a specific group of people, such as Ukrainian refugees, remains limited. Given the scale and specifics of the stress faced by refugees, it is important to determine how effective these techniques can be in developing stress resilience among survivors of war, forced displacement, and other extreme conditions. Scientific novelty: generalization of scientific approaches to defining the essence of the concept of “stress resilience”, Specific factors influencing the stress resilience of Ukrainian refugees are identified, the effectiveness of mindfulness approaches in reducing stress levels among survivors of war events is substantiated, a conceptual model of integrating mindfulness into psychological support for Ukrainian refugees is proposed.
