Abstract
EN : Thesis – 50 pages, 63 sources. The object of the study: English-language political discourse as a communicative field where the manipulative function of language is realized. The main goal of the work: analysis and systematization of the main techniques of manipulative influence in modern English political discourse, identifying their role and mechanisms of functioning. Theoretical and methodological basis: Key provisions of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), particularly T. van Dijk's concept of manipulation and the ideological square, Aristotle's rhetorical triangle (Ethos, Pathos, Logos), Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The research employed methods of classification, cognitive-semantic modeling, component analysis, and quantitative data analysis. The obtained results: Manipulation is defined as a form of covert communicative influence and abuse of power, realized through the macro-strategy of the ideological square. At the lexical level, influence is achieved through evaluative lexicon and metaphorical framing; furthermore, the frames of metaphorical concepts (deep logic) proved more persuasive than the frames of metaphorical words. Syntactically, manipulation utilizes parallelisms, anaphora, rhetorical questions and Calls to Action for audience mobilization. Pragmatic influence relies on Pathos as the strongest strategy, while Logos frequently uses enthymemes, leading the audience to draw conclusions independently. The technique of framing and presupposition are employed to construct a favorable reality and to conceal responsibility. The study also highlighted the growing role of digital manipulation, which applies micro-targeting and "cyber troops" for distributing disinformation.
