Функціонування і особливості перекладу евфемізмів в англомовних ЗМІ

Abstract

UA : Дипломна робота – 62 стор., 66 джерел. Об’єкт дослідження: евфемізми, відібрані з публікацій англомовних ЗМІ. Мета роботи: визначення особливостей функціонування евфемізмів у текстах англомовних ЗМІ та найбільш адекватних способів їхнього відтворення в українському перекладі. Теоретико-методологічні засади: приклади вживання евфемізмів у англомовній пресі, зокрема “The Guardian” (понад 50 медійних текстів). Джерелом безпосереднього аналізу стали 182 досліджувані одиниці. Вибір матеріалу обумовлений авторитетністю та популярністю зазначеного видання. Отримані результати: 1) Проведене теоретичне дослідження дозволило дати власне визначення евфемізму, під яким ми розуміємо заміну будь-якого небажаного (грубого або недозволеного) слова або виразу більш коректним з метою уникнути прямого найменування того, що здатне викликати негативні почуття в учасників комунікації, а також замаскувати певні факти дійсності. 2) В результаті проведеного аналізу 182 евфемізмів англомовного медіа дискурсу, ми класифікували евфемізми за тематикою.

EN : The presented paper is dedicated to the analysis of euphemisms, as well as their classification and peculiarities in English-Ukrainian translation. The object of work is euphemisms used in English news media sources. The aim of the paper is consist in determining of euphemisms functioning in English mass media discourse and investigating the most adequate ways of their translation into Ukrainian. It determined the accomplishment of such objectives as: - profound analysis allowed us to outline our own definition of euphemism, which implies replacement of any rude or negative word with more acceptable lexical unit in order to avoid the direct reference to the word that may cause negative feelings or discomfort to a communicator. - by investigating of 182 euphemistic units used in English mass media, we can break up euphemisms into the following groups: 1) euphemisms that exclude race discrimination; 2) ones that replace names of diseases or fact of death; 3) ones that soften age discrimination; 4) business and economics euphemisms; 5) euphemisms that improve the social status of certain professions; 6) euphemisms related to poverty and financial difficulties; 7) ones used to mask physical disabilities or mental disorder; 8) political euphemisms related to armed conflicts; 9) euphemisms for sexism exclusion; 10) euphemisms that replace human physical processes or state; 11) euphemisms for human vices, crimes and punishment; 12) euphemisms used to hide sexual context. The scientific novelty of the presented research lies in investigation of most suitable approaches in translation of euphemisms into Ukrainian language, their classification and ways of formation.
