The presented paper is dedicated to the process of teaching English to students
of the 1st year of language universities during teaching reading.
Subject of research can be defined as the method of teaching selective English
reading to students-future teachers of a foreign language.
The main aim is substantiation and development of the methodology for using
a set of exercises aimed at forming the communicative competence of first-year
students at language higher education institutions during the training of selective
reading.
It determined the accomplishment of such objectives as:
- give a theoretical justification for the problem of teaching selective
English reading;
- make a set of selective reading training exercises;
- experimentally verify the effectiveness of the proposed method;
- to reveal the peculiarities of language and speech aspects of
communicative competence in selective reading.
The method of teaching students selective English reading is based on a
personal-activity approach and includes problematic types of tasks; takes place
according to an interactive model with the implementation of three stages of their
activity: preparatory, main and final. Exercises for teaching students selective
English reading: for the formation of structural-orientation skills and abilities; to
form background knowledge; for the formation of phonetic, lexical and grammatical
skills of text reading; for the formation of semantic forecasting skills based on the
structural components of the text; to form the ability to revise the text in order to
determine the range of its main issues.

Об’єкт дослідження – процес навчання англійської мови студентів І
курсу мовних ВНЗ під час навчання читання.
Предмет дослідження – методика навчання вибіркового англомовного
читання студентів-майбутніх вчителів іноземної мови.
Мета дослідження – обґрунтування та розробка методики використання
комплексу вправ, націленого на формування комунікативної компетенції
студентів-першокурсників мовних вищих навчальних закладах під час
навчання вибіркового читання.
Теоретико-методологічні засади становлять роботи з теорії
комунікації (А. Грицева, Н. Драган-Іванець, Н. Лютянська), основ
педагогічної діяльності (В. Бондар, Р. Гуревич, Н. Кузьміна); навчання різних
типів читання (М. В. Ляховицький, Г. А. Гринюк, Т. Т. Михайлюкова,
С. В. Гапонова).
Отримані результати. Методика навчання студентів вибірковому
англомовному читанню спирається на особистісно-діяльнісний підхід та
включає проблемні види завдань; відбувається за інтерактивною моделлю з
реалізацією трьох етапів їхньої діяльності: підготовчого, основного та
завершального. Вправи для навчання студентів вибірковому англомовному
читанню: для формування структурно-орієнтовних навичок та вмінь; для
формування фонових знань; для формування фонетичних, лексичних і
граматичних навичок читання тексту; для формування вмінь смислового
прогнозування за структурними компонентами тексту; для формування вмінь
перегляду тексту з метою визначення кола його основних питань.
