UA : Об’єкт дослідження: процес локалізації відеоігор з мови оригіналу
(англійської) на українську.
Мета роботи: виявити лексичні особливості перекладу українською
мовою оригінальних англомовних текстів рольових відеоігор.
Теоретико-методологічні засади: мультидисциплінарний підхід до
вивчення відеоігор та впливу культурного контексту на адаптацію ігрового
контенту, застосування принципів та теорій перекладу, аналіз вибору
локалізаційних стратегій.
Отримані результати: У ході дослідження ми дійшли висновку, що
локалізація рольових відеоігор включає адаптацію гри до мови та культури
конкретного регіону, забезпечуючи доступність та зрозумілість для місцевої
аудиторії. Локалізація включає різні рівні, від простого перекладу текстів до
повної адаптації гри з урахуванням місцевих правил і законів. У розгляді такої
рольової гри як “World of Warcraft” ми виявили локалізацію не лише
лінгвістичних, а й культурних та соціальних аспектів. Систематичний підхід до
локалізації визначає якість перекладу та забезпечує повноцінний геймерський
досвід для української аудиторії.
EN : Game localization is the process of adapting a video game to a specific regional
or language market in order to make it accessible and understandable to a local
audience.
This process includes the translation of texts, dialogues, interface and other
elements of the game into the language of the target market (in our case – into the
Ukrainian language), as well as the adaptation of the cultural and social aspects of the
game to the requirements of the local audience.
There are four levels of game localization, which depend on the degree of
funding. At the first (cheapest) level, the game is imported without any changes in the
original language. The second level involves the translation of the box and
documentation, rules of the game. The third level means a partial translation of the
game text, in which the musical compositions and dialogues remain in the original.
At the fourth level, a complete translation of the entire game is carried out.
In the theoretical part of the thesis, we discovered that there are certain
problematic issues that arise in the process of localization. Conventionally, they can
be divided into semantic (or ethical), technical and linguistic problems. In the
practical part, we consolidated this knowledge and gave 13 different examples of
problems we found in the game “World of Warcraft”.
In the end, after analyzing 120 hours of the localized version of the game, we
came to the conclusion that the translation and its adaptation, despite the presence of
some errors, is still of high quality and interesting.
Localization of this game in Ukraine is done by the gamer community of
amateur translators, which can affect the quality of the translation to some extent.
